Haucourt Municipal Council and the Duke of Wellingtons West Riding Regimental Association (DoW RA) are holding a small event, 2pm Saturday 1st September 2018,  in Haucourt to remember the officers and soldiers who took part in the action to capture Haucourt and St Servins farm between 28 and 31st August 1918. Over 55 soldiers from the regiment lost their lives in this action. A bronze plaque will also be unveiled to commemorate 2nd Lt James Huffam who was awarded a Victoria Cross for his gallantry in the same action.

The ‘Dukes’ were attached to the Canadian Corps at the centre of a counterattack, which become known as ‘the last hundred days’.

Attending the event will be Julian Morley and his family, who is the grandson of Corp Frank White, who survived this action and went on to live a full life. We will also remember 2nd Lt Harris Hartas Anson, Frank White's commanding officer (“we would’ve followed him anywhere”). Also attending will be Tim Nicholson of the DoW RA.

We thank Philippe Dubus, Mayor and the Municipal Council of Haucourt for their support of this event and their offer to construct a stone pillar for the plaque. Also to Jean-Marie Dez who is supporting the event through the 7VC project and Major David Harrap of the DoW RA

All are welcome to the event which will take place at 2:30pm next to the L'Église Saint-Michel, Rue du Gén de Gaulle, 62156 Haucourt, France. Please register your interest in attending the event so that can gauge numbers.

Particularly welcome will be people attending the Canadian Memorial Event, Sunday 2nd September 2018, and relatives and descendants from all sides of the conflict.
